salam my first post....

I have nvidia media centre in my windows 2000 pro startup group...I want to remove it because there are several others which I really need to startup each time on windows boot.

My question--is it safe to remove it from startup or are there going to some adverse effects on the functioning of my graphic card ?

Yep no effect, you can access the same from Desktop, right click and Nvidia control panel.
