My windows xp sp2 install is acting weird lately and is giving the following problems

hidden folders remain hidden if i change the option in the folder options and revert back to 'Do no show hidden or system files' even after selecting 'show hidden files' automatically.

In my computer, partitions open in a new window even though, the option to open folders in the same window is selected.

Can't run yahoo messenger, starts and then automatically shuts down without any error.

Any clues?

Virus or spyware. Run scans.

Try running some scans as suggested by Asad bro else I'm afraid that this might be something close to windows being "corrupted".

Look at the link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/protect/com...ndicators.mspx

Retention issues of settings could be virus or spyware.
