My project "Liberty Electronics"
Rating:
()
Assalamualaikum everyone.
I hope everyone will be fine. I'm currently working on a e-project which has been assigned to me by my institute. So I thought of sharing it with you people as nearly everyone here has good knowledge about the internet and websites. My aim is to make a website on "Liberty Electronics" and the requirements of the websites are stated below: Quote:
As per the requirements, I've designed a Main page which looks like this. Please give me your valuable comments in making a better website. ![]() Remember, I've 20 days to complete this project. And today is the 1st day which leaves me with 19 more days.

Ali bro thats just a simple image which I inserted from my PC. A mouse over feature over them will make my work more longer as I'll have to direct more links to their specific locations.
I'll give it a try anyway, I appreciate your suggestion. I'm trying to find a website from where I can design custom buttons. That greenish "What's new" button in the middle is not giving a good impression. Does anyone know from where can I find custom buttons?

It looks kinda more like a corporate website mate.
You might have an idea of whats the shops main products. How about them on the front page. The custom cable one should be a column of the side, and the bigger column should have the one for main electronics. With pictures etc. Like give 4-5 images of the main type of things avaialble ... lets say TV, Fridges, Microwaves etc ... then a link for "View all available appliances" A much brighter colour. Take inspiration from sites such as NewEgg, Best Buy etc ... Hope you dont mind hte critisicm, its meant to be constructive.

hmm .. color are looking dull .. as its a consumer site and not looking too much attractive ..
.. use some light colors for the background .. and try to make the image button "check out whats new" with transparent background or in other words of the same color as your background is .. white around the button is not looking gud, if you know photoshop you can remove it as well, search on google you will find some gud ones, or made a good CSS for the button on frontpage or dreamweaver, try finding the complete working software from below link http://www.xp-web-buttons.com/ by the way for which course you are given this project ? and in which language u are making it ?? or its only html pages ? |

Bro I have vista buttons 2.45 but its the trail version so whenever I make my custom buttons and make the HTML result, the buttons are tagged with a "trial" label with them
. Lets see if XP buttons can make some difference. *software downloaded*.. bro its the same Vista button trial version. ![]() And for the colors for the website. Which colors would u suggest? Can you provide me with some samples? And I'm currently doing ACCP (Aptech Certified Computer Programming) and I'm making the website using Dreamweaver 8.

How i would have had approached this website:
1) Create a basic Information Architecture, using MSvisio or MSword. 2) Research on competitors website, took screenshots of the best design. Analyse their architecture and then refine my own. 3) Create a very basic layout of home page and interim and subpages, outlining the elements which need to be present, using MS Visio. This is known as a low fidelity mockup. 4) Finalize Low Fidelity mockup and Information Architecture etc. * All of the can be done within a day, or a day and a half max. But will save a lot of time and reduce iterations later on. This phase can be called pre-production or planing phase. 5) Create High fidelity mockups of homepage. Make a logo, Settle upon a color scheme, incorporate eyecandy. Create at least 3 mockups. Look for inspiration on galleries and template sites. Settle upon a mockup, refine, refine and refine it again. Pay attention to small details such as icons, buttons, gradients and shadows etc (See how the pre-production phase is saving you time here) *Apparently you jumped to this phase directly. If you dont get lazy and work 8-10 hours a day, 20 days are enough for a website of this magnitude. 6.) Cut it up and create html of homepage and sub pages, if you know dreamweaver or php you can create templates or reusable codes which will save a lot of time on production. 7.) QA Html to be pixel perfect. Check on Mozilla, safari and IE. Validate html on w3C. 8.) Now do the donkey work, Create individual pages, incorporate content, create links, add functionality etc. Dont be a dheela here, check on everything you do, no matter how small a error is fix it on the spot. * When youve completed making all the pages, pat yourself on the back coz youve just completed the production phase. Now the post production phase. 9) host it on a temporary server. Do QA, QA and more QA. Check for browser compatibility again. Ask people to use your website. Sit with them, give them a scenario such as buying or comparing a product, dont give directions. See how easy it is for and average person to complete simple tasks. 10) Refine using given user feedback. 11) Go live. 12) Optimize for SEO. Submit to Search engines. etc. etc. Given my own experience, i expect such a website to be completed given all the steps above in around 15 days. But not all the steps above are applicable in your scenario. So see what suits you best. Needless to say, work hard like anything, web professionals are used to tight deadlines and long hours. The project is there to give you a taste of what the real world is like, so simulate it for yourself. Lemme know if you need any specific feedback or get stuck somewhere. I'll be glad to help.

I've made some color changes to the background and shown 2 font color samples. Have a look here.
+ Mouse over effect added to the navigation above.

check your pm for the links, its not vista or xp web buttons .. but it might help ..
means no asp or aspx pages ? simple html pages ? .. then you only has to concentrate on page design only .. try using a light blue gradient .. check out the top background color and gradient bar where windows live logo appears .. try copying and changing its colors http://spaces.live.com/ this link might help http://www.coolhomepages.com Last edited by uzair : 06-02-2008 at 06:52 AM. |
