Hi guys,
Just to get discussion rolling, I am looking at getting an N-73 within the next two months. However, I have heard there are a lot of bugs in it's firmware. To the contrary, I have seen few people complaining about it recently on online forums, though there were a lot of complaints during the latter half of 2006. Can anyone highlight what bugs there are and how stable N-73 is with the currently available firmware? If anyone is currently using it with the latest firmware, please share you opinion. Also, if you have any other mobile phone recommendations [Nokia/ SE], please share with a link and your personal opinion about it.

I have read somwhere on another forum that people upgrade their N-73 to music editions. I dont know how its done (as their screen color etc looks different in pics) but if anybody can shed some light on this then it would benefit everyone!

Yes, i have heard that too. I dunno if Nokia has done anythin to prevent this or not but I intend to get the Music edition which comes with more memory. Have you used N-73?

i have used an n-73 and apart from the fact that it is symbian (thus really slow) it really has some drawbacks
1. no bluetooth stereo headset support: real bummer esp for a music ed phone (no a2dp) 2. uses mini-sd cards 3. the camera cover is very flimsy 4. camera is slow to capture as compared to the k790i 5. the interface is slow (thanks to symbian OS) 6. the tiny joystick is really substandard, cant believe nokia actually used it! 7. the keypad is uncomfortable (as compared to the k790i) that said, the n73 makes better video and probably has a bigger screen (same res 240*320) when compared to the k790. why do i keep comparing it to the k790: 1. same price point 2. similar camera |

So what is the p[roblem with mim-SD memory? I think Kingston has it in it's lineup.
I already know about the joystick problem but it is just a matter of a drop of glue on it to fix it. It's loose by design. What other similar options are there apart form K-790?

nothing wrong with it, its just a dead end imo (the minisd) hardly any phone employs a mini-sd slot its either micro-sd or m2 (for sony)
mem cards dont cost much, but still it is a 1000 rupees. though i think the music ed does come with on as for ur 2nd question, it depends on what u are looking for. if it's symbian u must have then u're limiting urself to nokia or a couple of solutions from SE, which i think u dont like. i cant stand symbian phones. waiting for 5-10secs for message inbox to open up is really testing my patience! also the initial FW was really buggy on the n73, u would need an update if it still ships with that version (highly unlikely though) from ur interest in music ed, i think u need a phone with good music playing characteristics? i can only think of k790, k800 (keeping in this price bracket) as good all in one phones. decent camera, good music capabilities and fun to use. the best bit about se phones is that u can update the fw over the net. i had a k750i whose fw i updated thrice. with my nokia i am dependent on ota (n6131). if i had 22000 lying around or if i really wanted to get a cell phone i would get the k790, even though the n73 has a pair of stereo speakers, but symbian+greater cost (about 1500 )+mini-sd puts me off |

Well, the Music edition is for 25K and includes the mini-sd card... What's the maimum mini-SD capacity available and price range for it?
From what I have read on various forums, the new firmwares have increased the speed and reduced the bugs quite a bit. What are the issues with updating firmware OTA and via net?

OTA u are operator dependent. if ur service provider has a fw update available only then u can update it, otherwise u're stuck with what u have.
nokia does have a fw update site, but i havent visited it in over a year (nearly), thus am not sure what about how n73's fw is updated via the net u can do it anytime u want it. atleast with SE it was really easy. hook up the phone to ur pc, d/l the usb driver, logon to SE's website, start the update procedure...wait...u're done! i am not sure what route the n73 takes, but i doubt nokia officially offers the ability to update fw over the net, but i am not sure about this. MiniSD 512= 750 thats the cheapest i could find (on galaxy.pk and pakgsm.com) Last edited by ali.tayyab : 03-06-2007 at 02:28 PM. |

Quote:
http://www.nokia.com/A4176089 There are two methods to update the firmware: 1 - OTA 2 - via PC - This follows the same procedure as SE firmware update. About the mini-SD, a 2GB Kingston mini-SD is about US$18.5 from Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...cegrabbermerch
