A cheap deal for a DSLR

The Olympus E500 DSLR is retailing now for around 30,000 rs with dual kit lenses. Thats the price stated on the flyer, retailer price will be much lower. I bought mine last year for around 52k and it has proved to be a good investment.

The Kit lenses are of the highest quality in their category (read: better than nikon and canon offerings) and would individually cost more than 10,000 rs each. So if you do your math you are getting the E-500 body for almost free. Also dpreview.com gave this camera a highly recommended rating.

If any of you wanted to buy a dslr, now is a good time to get one since there will only be a few left in the stocks.

I am interested only in Nikon or Canon. Do you know any great deal of them. i.e for D40x , D80 or cannon EOS 450 etc.

Ive seen three olympus showrooms in khi...and i presume that the deal will be available in all three since I saw a very official flyer posted in galaxy's shop.

The first showroom is in saddar electronic market, the place opposite star cinema also known as mobile market. Wont be hard to find if you ask around.

The second is at Shahra-e-faisal. Located between nursery and lal Kothi. It is near the building of Bank al Habib. Ask for Ghazi Arfat. Phone no is 4386528.

The third franchise is behind dela wala market clifton. Near the clifton underpass.

Nothing that I know of. You should wait untill new models arrive, then checkout the showrooms. I guess you might find good deals on D50, D70 and EOS 350D if they have any available in the stocks.

Thanks for the advice. But i want 10 mega pixel camera. All you mention above are 6 and 8 mega pixel i suppose.

Yes 6,6 and 8 mp respectively. Unless you already own a few lenses, I would recommend not buying into the latest nikon and canon 10mp bodies. Pentax, Oly and sony have incorporated sensor based Image Stabilization in their new bodies, whereas nikon and canon still stick on lens based IS (and say they wont shift to in body IS). So unless you are very rich or already own a lot of lenses buy into the system, otherwise it is not recommended for the time being.

No i don't have any lens. I am currently using canon S2IS.

Apart from image stabilizer, Nikon and canon have many cool features. Results are amazing. Far better than any other brand.

D80 is expensive about 80k but rest are not much expensive. D40x is around 45k and 450D is also around. So i think the best bet would be to choose b/w these two models.

I disagree. Unless you are buying top of the line models, such as Mark III or d200 or D2x, you will not find as much difference IQ wise from the competition and again Image Quality is a subjective matter.

Feature wise D80, D40x and EOS 400D are still behind the competition. And as you know 450D is yet to be announced.

You also need to put into factor in the price of the lenses, the canon and nikon kit lenses are almost a joke, and to get the same focal length as what Olympus is offering for the price you need to spend considerable money. Pentax is offering a weather sealed body normally found in Pro bodies. Sony had its own charms at the time of lanch of their Alpha 100 and the new 700.

Canon and Nikon have good heritage and based on that brand image they sell well, but dont think of them as an obvious choice. Many companies have equivalent and better alternatives out there. Be sure to check them out before you jump on to the bandwagon. Good Luck!
