Play Crysis in DX 10 Mode Under XP

I saw this in the comments on our "Crysis Demo Impressions" post and I must say, it's a winner. If you follow the instructions in this post, you will be playing what looks exactly like a DirectX 10, "Very High" settings version of Crysis under XP. I have tried it and it does work. It makes everything look just as good as it does in DirectX 10 shots of Crysis released thus far. Only a matter of cut and pasting some lines of code in the \Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Game\Config\CVarGroups directory.

As a reference, I tried this with an NVIDIA 8800GTS 320MB card.

So who exactly is Microsoft fooling? Why should we buy Vista? I certainly don't have the technical answers for you, but as a gamer, I can only shake my head in disbelief as to the stuff they are trying to sell us these days.

open up the ..\...\cvargroups

then copy the very high settings (the first set) to the place where high settings are (the last group)

the game will load with the highest settings possible, but will only display 'high' within the game.

I tried this and I am amazed. I am even more amazed that it still runs at an almost playable fps

This is what I did. You can try this at your own risk as I am taking no responsibility if you screw up your system.

I went to my CVarGroups folder and in there were a bunch of cfg files.

I first made a copy of the entire CVarGroups on my desktop in case I screwed up. I then opened each cfg and made the same edits. You copy the default (4) option which is the first block of text and paste/replace the last block of text with it.

for example the "sys_spec_Particles.cfg"


[default]

= 4

e_particles_quality=4
e_particles_lod=1
e_particles_max_emitter_draw_screen=32
r_UseSoftParticles=1
e_water_ocean_soft_particles= 1
e_particles_object_collisions=1

r_UseSoftParticles=0
e_water_ocean_soft_particles=0
e_particles_object_collisions=0

[2]

e_particles_max_emitter_draw_screen=16

Copy all the red text and paste/replace the blue text with it so it looks like...

Do this same thing with all the cfg files in the CVarGroups folder. Just remember to BACK UP the old files first!!!!


After I did this I logged back in and all I can say is wow. Thw water is very different and the the tire tracks on the beach are realistic. The depth of view and light beams look very cool as well. Very nice find OP!

I'm going to play the demo all over with this setting now.

Its not possible my friend.
this is not possible.
the impression that u are seeing is just a series of impressions of dx9 effects...
thats all about it.
when u dont have any dx10 in xp......
then how can u have the support?
the API ( Application programming interface) doesnt let u do this.
casue the way dx 10 is done.
it cant be embedded into xp coz alot of reason.
read this and u will know..

the effects in the game are not dx10 specific, and can be replicated in dx9

what the person in the forum did is proove this. the games effects are not dx10 exclusive

he is not emulating dx10 in xp, he is showing crysis effects that crytek says are dx10 only are possible in dx9.

and i repeat he is not running dx10 under xp, he is running crysis very high settings under xp, which according to crytek are dx10 only.

in short: Crysis Very high settings work under xp as well.

As crytek equates very high with dx10, thus the way the thread at that forum is labled!

soo u are just seeing some high graphics.
through this.
what the hell does it have to do with dx10?
very high is exclusive for vista...dx10.
and with this we can run it.
not bad..
but i was just telling him that u can have dx10 in xp.
is not posssible..
enjoy gaming...
will give vista reviews of the game later!!!!!!!
