First of all i apologize for staring another thread for this game. one is already pretty active. but for some reason, new thread get started by someone and then the old one which was the original thread gets lost.

anyways anandtech has a very good article on UT3 demo and how the engine behaves with cpus, gpus, ram

Summary:

L2 Cache
The more the merrier, the diff between 1MB L1 and 4MB L2 is about 20% at the same clock speed!

Front Side Bus
the difference is minor about 3%, and this can be increased as u oc ur pc!

CPU Cores
this is the most important parameter. Going from single to dual core u get a 60% increase, going to quad is less impressive at between 13-20%

Clock Speed
Not as important as L2 cache or cores!
going from dual core 2.0ghz (core2duo) to 3.33 ghz give an increase of 23% in frame rates. the clock freq has increased by 67%!

AMD vs Intel
at the same clock freqs, Intel cpu's are 30% faster if CPU bound and 9% faster if GPU bound (x2-6000 vs e6850 both at 3.0ghz)

So if u have a core2duo cpu u're set to go!

yep..going to dual core really takes u a step ahead, or in the new intel terms, "leap ahead".

AMD on the other hand has been portraying results as expected.

^yep that is true, even the newer phenom have a really crazy L2/L3 Cache structure!
okay here is the corrected version:

each Barcelona core has a 128KB L1 cache and a 512KB L2 cache per core, with all four cores sharing a 2MB L3 cache,

so as is said before, if a core doesnt work it's cache isnt doing much (L2)

L3 cache is just a 'bin' for l2 cache.
they added a l3 cache so as not to introduce too many changes to the k8 architecture.

if l2 cache fills up, the controller keeps what it deems important in l3 cache!

cache controllers are usually very efficient usually >90%, maybe even more!

GPU analysis:

2900 does very well as their is no AA in this game (not officially!)
the x1950pro does better than the 8600gts!

i guess so.
thought it's not in the bechmark!
these are flyby results. the ingame benchies would obviously be slower
also keep in mind that the demo doesnt include high-res textures, this would also affect gaming performance!

all the same they arent half as bad, esp the 2900hd, (again as the engine doesnt allow AA by default)
