Got it from the official site and burned it on CD. Supposedly all I have to do is boot from the cd and it should run. However it doesn't

Anyone has any tip for what I should do?

check two things

1:make ur in ur bios settings u have set the first boot device to your dvd/cd rom

2: make sure u burned the iso image file (ubuntu-7.04-desktop-i386.iso file) to make it bootable

a step by step guide is available just follow this link http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/iso

Does the Ubuntu boot screen load? Or the PC just boots into Windows? If the second thing happens then follow Zeus's advice.

if u've done what already mentioned then:

do u have an intel made p965 board? if so then this could be an issue. these boards have a torrid time booting off a linux cd (ubuntu is linux based!).
i think this was solved with a bios update but i am not too sure

Have done the boot sequence change and also have tried it on 3 different PC's (ranging from P4 to celeron).

When I boot it there is no indication of Ubuntu screen or anything. Windows starts up instead. Have also tried a thing called md5 checksum as stated on the ubuntu website help notes(to see that the stuff is correctly downloaded and burned on CD).

What to do now ?

Yes that was the trouble. I had burned using standard windows option (just copy and paste on the cd and write the file). Downloaded InfraRecorder and now its booting up nicely -but painfully slow (maybe becuz its running from the CD??)

LiveCD runs like a snap on high memory. My pc has only 512MB where it runs so-so. I tried a alpha version of Upcoming Ubuntu (7.10) on a friends PC which had 1GB RAM. It smoked! So fast I couldn't believe this was running of a CD. Plus having a good DVD/CD-ROM helps
