After a crash windows recovered but now always shows a Chkdsk on partition E.And finds no errors tells me everything is ok and logs in. I have restored the windows to the basic installation using ghost but it is still showing up! ? Any setting I am missing? the hdd is 200GB sata 7200 8mb.

why dont do chkdsk scan manually in dos, the one comes with winxp cd during setup. i solved my problem like this.

happened to me too and i was pissed at this, even when I sceduled a scan like immy said it still wouldnt go away

however When i run Chkntfs e: it is saying that the partition is dirty. I have modified the registry to this

yes it worked. However I need a utility to check hdd physically. I have bootable segate disk test on a cd but It hangs up when I run a test now. I remember that the same test used to go thru fine.!

NiGhTmArE will become famous soon enough
you can check Disk performance by Speedfan or by PassMark Software also do a low level format if u have backed up ur data and running windows on some other hard disc
