salam
My current power supply has a 20 pin connector and a 4 pin connector for cpu.
I want to buy a power connector which makes it usable on lga motherboards with 24 pin power connector.
I am not finding it in nearby local market. Please tell me where can I find this adapter/connector and please also inform me about the price.
tia.

Your old PSU should work fine with newer motherboards. I have connected my old PSU with my XFX 630i. Just leave the four pins empty, no need for any connector whatsoever. I have a lowend rig so I wasn't much bothered by this 'lack' of pins in the PSU connector as long as the PC worked.

I have heard that the additional 4 pins are meant for supplying power to the pci express video card and if they are not configured properly then either the system crashes or there is permanent damage to the system.

your advice seems to be good for low end systems and actually I am making a low end system so it may work well.
The motherboard in question is p5rd1-vm from asus. And I am putting a low end pci express graphic card.
Thanks for your answer.
STILL I fell that my question is unanswered. Please anyone with an answer on where to get this connector and what is the price.
tia.

do you think that the death of your systems was in any way related to the absence of these 4 pins ?

the extra 4 pins are for extra power basically
if u have a high end mobo, or extra ram, or a decent vga card then u need a 24 pin connector

the 20 pin connector should work entry level systems but it is now reccommended to use 24 pin in any and all systems
having said that, i have the connector (20 to 24 pin convertor) in stock and selling it here in islamabad for 150
let me know if u are interested
cheers

nof3l.....sorry to hear about the hardware catastrophies you just have had. I think that you just got a good power supply for quite cheap...Is not 450 watts for rs 300 very good ?
