Yes and also it's operating temperatures and power requirements are lower than 8800GT.

With the exception of one or two games 8800GT would be around 5-10 fps faster than 9600GT. Provided ingame settings and system specs are not altered.

Nah... just a card for my little bro's system. It's an E8400 processor, DG33FB mobo, 2GB DDR-II 800MHz RAM, and other miscellaneous stuff like 500GB HDD. He's currently using my older 6600GT and a new card should provide the needed gaming performance easily.

Thanks! Will see the links.

I tried googling it but people are confused over which to buy. Some say that the 8800GT would be more future proof with its shader units and some say that 9600GT is cheaper and supports some newer nVidia technology.

the new nvidia tech it supports is a better video decoder for hd content, pci-e 2.0 which isnt really useful.
its stream processors are more efficient that is why less of em are able to get a GT which has more.

i would get a 9600gt if i am on a budget, otherwise get a 8800GT. if u want to try ur luck get devastator's, price of a 9600GT performance of a 8800GT!
