i would get the xeon if all the specs are the same. server cpu's are usually made from *better* silicone and go through rigourous testing, make sure the board u pair to the cpu supports xeons

Energy consumption:
refer to intel's website for details. different steppings of q6600 (b3 vs g0) consume different amount of juice. the g0 also oc's much much better than the b3

xeon is based on different socket
lg771 i guess,

if u find any socket 775 xeon then go for it. they are really tough as ali bhai stated

xeon takes more power then conventional c2d.

i use xeon's on servers

i really havent read too much into the thread

power specs are pretty much on the spot. i've never seen anyone question intel's power specs even in the days of prescott the pressure cooker!

whichever runs on lower Vcore (voltage) will consume less power.

but u gotta be aware that Vcore varies even within the same stepping.
e.g. q6600 b3 stepping Vcore range is 1.28 to 1.3125.
u can check the box of the cpu (if u're buying from a brick and mortar store) to see the Vcore.

the only positive thing about Xeon is that it is more reliable and the negative aspect is that intel offers only one year warranty
what are binned processors??????????
