Hot on the heels of the 4850 comes another budget sleeper hit from ati, the 4870. this ones even more impressive and delivers bucket load of performance for only 299. reminds me of the days of the Geforce 4 Ti4200

We were surprised to see the Radeon HD 4870 competing well against the GeForce GTX 260. [b]It not only matched the gameplay experience, but in Assassin’s Creed it edged out with faster framerates too. Count on drivers to mature in both camps as well.[b/]
This coming from a place which usually spanks ati for terrible performance!

Nvidia better lower its prices or else!

nice benchies. this one is really the best bet for now after 4850 and 9800gtx.

I think Nvidia can lower the prices of its offerings but that may offer them
a little advantage over 4850 if they bring down 9800 GTX+ to $199 mark
as the Higher end Nividia cards cannot be offered at competitive rates due
to the costs involved ... so 4870 is going to dominate anything > $200

4870 ensures that ATI is back in the game at Last ...

(I was just imagining that if GDDR5 in 4870 can make it such a good performer
what would be the performance of GTX 280 with GDDR5 ... )

The best thing about ATI's successful comeback is that cards like 9800 GTX+
would go down to $199 ... if we get the fair prices here it would be very
good for buyers ... thats why competition is always good ...

Devastator is an unknown quantity at this point
Well, I'm kind of disappointed, the 9800GTX+ (with actually matured drivers, there is a reason why Nvidia is launching it next month), which is going to be launched shortly, priced around $230 ($70 cheaper than the 4870), will most likely beat 4870 in most of the tests.

But, I must say, this is the best ATI has done for a very long time now, and I can't wait to see their flagship, the R700.

9800gtx+ is just a oc'd 9800gtx, i wont expect too much out of drivers. there is nothing new in the card. the manufacturing process has shifted to 55nm allowing for greater clock speeds, the architecture is 100% 9800gtx

on the other-hand the -70 does have a 10-15% growth room.
