nvidia 9 Series Roapmap... no 512bit Mem bus!
Rating:
()
from Nordic Hardware:
NVIDIA has updated the GeForce 9 series roadmap and with it we can see not only the addition of the GeForce 9500 series, but also that GeForce 9800GX2 remains set for March 11. We've also found out that the highly anticipated GeForce 9800GT is slated for April 3. Before that, GeForce 9800GTX should arrive at the end of March. All GeForce 9 launches are scattered throughout Spring, and later in May, GeForce 9600GS will appear. GeForce 9500GT will surface in June, while the 9500GS should arrive one month after that. ![]() Couple of things: 1. The price of the 9800GTX is <400, which makes me believe it isnt going to be 2x of the 8800gtx or ultra. more of a 65nm refresh of the same. The SP remain the same, the clock speed is about nearly 200 mhz higher 2. The GX2 model is a rehash of the 8800gts, with a slower core clock. As i said before these arent going to be dx10.1 compliant, they will be dx10 only! i am not going to buy a new card unless it could run crysis 16x12x8aax16AF maximum details (dx9 pw) with 60fps median. atleast, using a sinlge gpu (dont like gx2 variants, and nvidia's ceo has already spoken against x2 variants, though his company is making one as well!; link to this at the bottom of the post) i know crysis employ's an 'odd' AA/AF filter, but none the less i want nothing less than whats been mentioned! link for the skeptiks! I'm amazed to see that the 9800GTX will be running on a 256-bit bus. 8800GTX has a 384-bit bus. An increase of nearly 150Mhz in the 9800GTX will probably give it the lead but the 256-bit will restrict it from pushing (alot) forward.

There should be more bandwidth for the memory bus ....
Ideally a minimum of 384 bit bus for each card and a 512 bit bus for highend ones ... Well i think its high time for ATI to get back and achieve the same and force the green team to think about big architectural improvements ... to keep it improving at a rapid rate.

I am currently using 7950GX2 (it is based on SLI tech) and although it is absolutely fantastic, due to SLI issues with some old titles, I won't shift to 9800GX2, instead I may go to 8800GTX/Ultra or 9800GTX (depending upon whoever is best when all the spices are in the plate.
Anyone using 8 series is definitely not recommended to get 9 series as both are based on DirectX 10 (Microsoft has confirmed that Direct X 10.1 is just a software update and shall increase the efficiency of DX10 hardware), the only difference is 65nm processor architecture (which may improve its performance but this has to be seen). I hope 8800 Ultra price falls below the 40,000 mark, pray with me fellas!
