Sure. Just as soon as the public wills it to happens through their elected leaders. Do the public and their leaders have the guts to do something about it? The restriction on supplies to NATO have already been lifted. It was just a ploy by Zardari to get votes from NWFP/Tribal areas who were seething at the unprovoked attacks.

After all, Musharraf and Army are history now, as far as the political scenario and power is concerned. Any one blaming them is just showing his ignorance of current times.

One must be dumb to say that army is not responcible,Many similar attacks hapened in previous govt tenure which ofcource was the Govt of Army,If suitable reply was given then,situation would not have been this bad

But i agree now is the time Civilian Govt should reply them suitably,Equip those 80,000 troops with Anti Aircraft weaponry i really hope this happen soon.

It's been all over the news here. Pick up copies of any local newspaper for the last two days. Many such attacks have happened in this government's time. And they don't seem to be doing an iota's worth of work to counter it. All this democrashic government has done is undermine the army by announcing a ceasefire without even consulting the Army. If only the lives of these politicians were on the line, I would have loved to see this one-sided ceasefire in effect. While our civilian government announced a one-sided ceasefire, TTP refused to honor it and has kept the attacks going. The losing party in this conflict are none other than the Army and the people of Pakistan losing lives in suicide bombings.

Previous government was not the government of Army. It was a democratically elected government too. Elections were held. People's representatives were elected and they were in Parliament. They could have exercised their power but they refused to do so, just like now. In all, this is indicative of failure of democracy as a system in this country.

What constitutes a suitable reply? You want to bring down their planes and start open war? How long will you survive with you being the aggressor (in the world's eye)? Pakistan will get slapped down instantly. This insistence on countering back with force is so typical of people who want to match swords against tanks and air cover.

The best solution is a diplomatic one where we come out smelling like roses. This action to block one of the two supply routes to ISAF/NATO forces was excellent and even I fully supported it. However, the balls of this government have been exposed when they retracted the restriction but in retrospect, this was just a typical Zardari ploy to get NWFP to vote for him as President.

The Pak-Afghan border is about 2250Km long and 80,000 is a very meager amount of men to stop cross-border incursions. But then, according to most people, Taliban are our brothers. Just wait till they stab us in the back (not that they aren't already doing it through suicide bombings and terrorism) and run back to Afghanistan while we, as a nation bleed to death.

Hence the proof that it is the elected democrashic government restricting the armed forces from retaliating to US incursions into our territory. We have the capability to respond. The string holders just don't have the guts and dexterity to go ahead with it.
