Pakistan: An Islamic republic - to be or not to be?
Rating:
()
Considering the current crisis and turmoil which the country is facing, do you think we should adopt sharia system or remain as we are?
Is it even possible to implement proper sharia in the presence of egotist Mullahs who think they alone have authority over religious knowledge [and some who proclaim martyrdom to be a pillar of Islam and preach it as such]? Is education necessary for people who decide the future of our country? If no, are the clerics [who have studied at Madrassahs and have little exposure to the pure sciences and other modern subjects] capable of leading us to a prosperous Pakistan? Keep the current condition of NWFP in mind which has had an MMA led government during the current term while answering. If you deem education to be necessary, what about the current educated [graduate] parliament? With fakes and munafiqeen like Dr. Amir Liaquat out there and corrupt politicians [whom it seems got education to purvey corruption in a more civilized and underhanded way], have we really got a positive example for an educated representation? Coming to economy, our policies for foreign trade and the duty structure are abysmal. There are more duties on exporting finished goods than raw materials. More than 60% of our exports are dependant on agriculture. How can we progress to a knowledge and technology based economy? Don't be fooled by the healthy growth figures on the TV news. Most of it is FDI which can dry up in a jiffy. There is non sustained source of income. Even the European Union recently banned export of fruits from Pakistan due to quality issues. Iran is getting ahead of us in carpet exports and we are losing market in other fields too. Even the environment is not safe with suicide bombings becoming a norm. the recent blast in Rawalpindi occurred when I was within a 1-1.5Km radius from the blast location. The boom was heard clearly by many people there. How to counter this brain washing of the youth in an effective way, who think that suicide bombing is a path to martyrdom whereas in truth, it is an urgent and direct ticket to hell? Add bombings in Swat, Waziristan by the insurgents, army and AF and the situation seems to be getting out of hand pretty quickly. These are just the few issues which come to mind. Highlight any other, which I might have missed out, and propose solutions if possible.

What about the perception of sharia? Personally, I don't think it is any where near the current implementation nor understanding of the religious clerics.
It needs to be be rejudged from the bottom up and made to be a viable system instead of a flawed and corrupt one.

I agree with you Asad bro. We need to make things right first to do things right.

One thing that will tell u how islamic a republic are we:
Islamic Banking vs Pakistani Banks Islamic Banking lost! Pakistani banks were told to comply with Islamic banking rules by the SC during the time of NS. Which was then over turned the excuse "cant live in this world like this" i'd say "idiots this world is for us (that includes you)" and u say u cant live like this pathetic! |

To add my point of view:
1. We got this country in the name of Islam. It is our religion that holds us together and gives us the reason to be together. If we had needed a secular republic then our forefathers could have easily lived in India (which although it has outbursts of communalism is by and large a secular country). 2. People generally have poor opinion of the mullahs. I quite disagree. I believe that the failure of Pakistan is the failure of the educated people and not army men, mullahs or bureaucracy. The world over whenever army gets a chance it takes power, where there is ignorance the mullahs provide illogical answers that are baseless and confusing and bureaucracy eats up as much as possible while doing as little as possible. Remember that it is not the chowkidar and maali who brings about change in society but it is the educated people who do so. What have we done? We have people spending more on food, gadgets and mobiles in a couple of years than what many people earn in a lifetime. Agreed it is your money and you can do what you want. But then also do not blame mullahs and army men for your misery. If you want to enjoy your money then don't blame others for enjoying their power. 3. People blame mullah's right? Well what do you expect people who get 3-5 K a month to do? Can you expect an office clerk at this salary to be learned enough to develop corporate strategy? If someone is interested in learning about religion then what are the choices? What is the acsessability of the university as compared to the madressah? I have had the opportunity to talk to a number of fellows from madressah. All have one question: "The educated folks you talk about are farigh people. They know nothing and roam about the streets snatching mobiles etc. Aren't we madressah students better than that?" Anyone has an answer to this? Because if not than the madressah is better than our colleges. Both produce zombies but at least one is not a crook factory!! All in all if you ask my point then I have been absolutely disappointed by the episodes that have been happening since this NRO thing. I mean if you have all the amnesty for the politician's who have stolen billions upon billions (and are hence responsible for the death's of thousands of people for whom hospitals could be built, the ignorance of hundreds of thousands of kids for whom schools could be developed etc etc) then why should i pay my taxes and stop at the traffic light? Solutions? Do we really want a solution? Its not someplace else and its not going to happen when we have a nice leader at our head. All it needs is for people like us to make a stand with with positive moral values as our rockets and guns. If you believe that speaking the truth is right then just do that one thing for your whole life even if you are losing something precious. If you feel interest(sood) is haram then stay out of it even if it will bring you a fortune. Society has its geniuses and it lamers, its rich and its poor. But it is the vast majority of simple and average people who shape its value system so don't ever think that what you do will not bring a change. If you can focus on your own deeds and set an example for others then it is just a matter of time before we can see the ripple effect of positivity overcoming negativity (at least in your circle of people). |
