Just started this thread to discuss which Islamic country has the best Military (including Army, Air Force & Navy). Before starting the thread I was thinking that Pakistan is the best but after reading information about some other Islamic militaries specialy Turkey, Egypt etc (just forget Nukes and Missiles for a minute) I am going to think again.

What do you say?

Turkey and Pakistan are probably at the top.

Saudi Arabia could also be considered since they have purchased a huge number of Eurofighters but then again, they didn't make it themselves, nor do I consider them competent enough in this field.

And forgetting nukes and missiles would be useless for this discussion since they form a major part of the capabilities of any military.

There are rumours of Tipu missiles having a range of 4000Km which would bring Israel in our range but we deliberately aren't advertising them since that would bring undue attention from the US and Israel since our stated enemy is India and we cover the entirety of India with our current arsenal.

Some of the things you mentioned are ones which we either already have or are on order/under consideration.

For instance, we are getting MLU F-16s (currently MLU is being performed in Turkey). Furthermore, the AF is also getting Block 52 from the US.

Also, I think (but not sure of the quantity) a squadron of J-10s is also on the desk. China has been told that the AF is interested and they don't have any problems with us getting it so expect J-10 in Pakistani airspace as soon as it China starts its sale.

Apart from that, while cooperation with Russia is being considered, I doubt we will get any airplanes. We are better off without it (flying coffins, if you get my meaning) any way.

We do lack transports and bombers. We also have a need for them apart from defence needs like providing relief goods in hard to get areas especially in disasters.

We also have the Cobras and last I read, there is also collaboration with South Africa for making some helicopter. China's WZ-10 is also on the table.

About the tanks, I think the current ones serve the purpose. However, Army should aim for improvements. Rumours have it that there is possible collaboration with Turkey on this front too.

As far as the Navy is concerned, PN has ordered, IIRC, German U212 or U214 which is one of the world's quietest diesel subs. The initial plan was to get Scorpenes from France (from the company which provided us Agosta - the name is slipping my mind right now) but they sold an advanced version to India so now we have moved on to German tech. What we are getting is better than Scorpene, IIRC.

The main problem with upgradation is the amount of money involved. It is fine to make wishlists but let's not checkout until there is money to back it up...

I agree with you, most of you said is correct but if we want to survive then we have to do alot of efforts durring upcoming 2 decades as no body knows when third world war begin and when America attacks us.

The chance of getting modern fighters / attack helis and anti aircraft missile systems from Russia is nill due to India invlovement but if you know Russia again is willing to develope modern weapons and starts finding new market to sell its weapon specialy the Muslim countries may be we can get other equipments.

As a side note currently Pakistan does'nt posses any J-10 fighters but its in our plan similerly the Cobras you are talking about are Vietnam era AH-1F and before Pakistan fighting against terror only one of them was operational, so you can emagine the current status and capabilities of them. But other side we have procure some AH-1F Cobras from USA and more are expected to deliver. Similerly we have recived some Bell 412 utility helis and more are expected which create some balance is particular department.

Another thing which I forget that Pakistan is also trying to get some anti aircraft Skyguard systems from Switzerland and the deal was almost finished but after Emergency in Pakistan Swiss govt halt the negosiation. Once Pakistan recieved them it will also boost our anti aircraft defense capabilities.

As far as funding issue if we control curruption then there will be no hastle.

if we were not that corrupted.
pakistan would have been a far better nation then what we are at the moment!!!!!

Just an example the level of corruption going on in Pakistan. I was visiting a project implemented by a community in Haripur with a funding of NGO.

In just Rs 465,000 the have concreted all the streets of the villages. The village has about 150 houses.

If with such a small amount, that scale of work can be done, then we call well imagine what could have been done with funds of million or corores of Rupees.

As far as arms are concerned, we should try to find some good reliable partners. Americans can stop the supply any time without notice no matter how close we consider ourself to them.

France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium etc are good choices.
